Safety Policy

How to report harassment, fraud, impersonation, abuse, unsafe conduct, and other misconduct on BattleBuddies.

Effective: August 2026

Why we have this policy

BattleBuddies exists for verified active-duty service members, Reservists, National Guard members, and veterans. Because every member is connected to a chain of command, a community, and a service branch, the stakes of harassment, fraud, impersonation, or unsafe conduct are higher here than on a general-purpose dating platform. This Safety Policy describes how to report misconduct of any kind, what we do with every report, and how we keep reporters safe from retaliation. It is published in connection with the Colorado Online Dating Services Safety Policy disclosure referenced in our Terms & Conditions.

The short version: If someone's behavior on BattleBuddies makes you feel unsafe, targeted, deceived, or harassed, report it. Reports can be filed in-app or by email at safety@battlebuddies.com. Reports are confidential. Retaliation against a reporter results in immediate suspension of the retaliating party.

What you can report

You can report any user, profile, photo, or message for any of the following reasons. This list is not exhaustive — if something feels wrong, report it.

How to report in-app

For most situations, the in-app report button is the fastest way to flag misconduct to our trust & safety team.

  1. Open the profile or message you want to report.
  2. Tap the menu (three dots or flag icon).
  3. Select “Report”.
  4. Choose the reason that best describes the issue (harassment, scam, impersonation, etc.).
  5. Add any details that help our team understand what happened, then submit.

All reports are confidential. The person you report will never know it was you. We take retaliation against reporters seriously — it results in immediate suspension of the retaliating party.

How to report by email or outside the app

For situations that need more context — screenshots, multi-message incidents, time-sensitive safety concerns, or anything you don't feel comfortable filing in-app — email us directly:

Include as much detail as you can: the other member's profile URL or username, the dates and approximate times of the incident, and any screenshots or message text that preserve the original wording. Do not alter screenshots — unedited evidence is what our trust & safety team and outside investigators need.

In an emergency, contact local law enforcement (911) or military police first. BattleBuddies is not an emergency service. If you are in immediate physical danger or facing a threat to life or safety, call 911 (or your local emergency number) or contact your installation's military police before — or in addition to — reporting to us.

What happens after you report

Every report is reviewed by a human member of our trust & safety team — not an automated system. We treat urgent safety reports as a priority.

  1. Acknowledgement. You will receive a confirmation that your report was received, usually within minutes for in-app reports.
  2. Review. Our trust & safety team reviews the report and the referenced account or content, typically within 24–48 hours; urgent safety reports are prioritized.
  3. Action. If a violation is confirmed, the action ranges from a warning to a permanent ban — with the option to refer the matter to the relevant Department of Defense investigative authority (CID, NCIS, OSI, CGIS, NGB investigators, JAG) and/or civilian law enforcement for serious or criminal conduct.
  4. Notice of resolution. You are notified when your report has been resolved.
  5. Confidentiality. The reported user is not told who reported them.

⚠️ UCMJ Violations: Immediate Referral to DoD and Civilian Authorities. Any conduct that constitutes a violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) — including but not limited to assault, sexual misconduct, fraud, conduct unbecoming of a service member, or any other UCMJ offense — will result in immediate account termination and referral to any and all appropriate Department of Defense (DoD) authorities, in addition to referral to appropriate civilian law enforcement authorities. This includes but is not limited to the applicable branch's Criminal Investigation Division (CID, NCIS, OSI, CGIS), the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps, and/or military law enforcement. BattleBuddies will preserve and provide all relevant records, communications, and evidence to authorized investigators upon request or as required by law.

Confidentiality and retaliation

Reports are confidential. The person you report will never be told who reported them, and our trust & safety team does not share reporter identities with the reported user. Retaliation against a reporter — in any form — is treated as a serious violation of our Community Guidelines and results in immediate suspension of the retaliating party. If you experience or witness retaliation after filing a report, contact safety@battlebuddies.com so we can act on it.

Appeals

If you believe your account was actioned incorrectly, you may appeal by emailing appeals@battlebuddies.com within 30 days of the action. Include your account email and a description of what happened. We review all appeals, but cannot guarantee reinstatement.

Zero-tolerance violations (military impersonation, financial fraud, CSAM) are not eligible for appeal.
